Call For Volunteers

Calling all volunteers! We need you for WordCamp Houston 2020!

WordCamps all around the world are 100% volunteer-run, and we are no exception. Volunteers are an essential part of the success of WordCamps. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community, meet new people, and learn from both speakers and organizers.

Perks

Here are all the great perks you’ll get as a volunteer:

  • Comp and Discount Tickets to the event, based on availability and volunteer hours.
  • An inside look at the planning stages of the event.
  • The opportunity to meet speakers, attendees, and vendors.
  • After-parties with other organizers and attendees.
  • Copious amounts of high-fives and thank-yous from the organizers.

In addition to the above, there are the possibilities of an exclusive volunteer-only t-shirt and a pre-party open only to speakers and volunteers. Details on these will be posted later if and when they are finalized. These items are not guaranteed to happen at this time.

Areas of Volunteering

As currently planned, volunteer duties will include the following:

  • Food and Snacks – Keep food service orderly and ensure that snacks are provided.
  • Clean-up Helper – Follow up with hotel personnel and clean up messes (mess happens!).
  • Conference Room Helper – Make sure rooms are clean and have enough seating and assist attendees.

  • Happiness Bar – Help other WordPress users with their websites.
  • Takedown – After the event, taking everything down and making sure the venue is clear of event materials, tables, swag, as well as any other rubbish/debris.
  • After-party – Receive and assist attendees at the after-party venue.

Requirements

TIME
We try to ask only for a few hours of help from our volunteers during the event. Generally, you should be available during the day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 9th and Sunday, May 10th, 2020. Saturday, May 9th will be the busiest day, and we will likely need the most help then.

BEHAVIOR
Like other attendees at WordCamp Houston, volunteers must adhere to our code of conduct — https://2020.houston.wordcamp.org/code-of-conduct/.

Volunteer Selection and Day-Of Details

You will get an official email from the WordCamp Houston team when you have been selected. This email will include details including what you’ll be doing, where you’ll be working, who will be your volunteer coordinator, and how to check-in on the day of the event.

We look forward to working with you to help make WordCamp Houston 2020 a success!
